MOUNTAINS OF UVS

Kharkhiraa is the name of
a 4037 m mountain in the Kharkhiraa Valley , Uvs Province and part of the Uvs lake
Protected area. The most scenic and not to difficult to access there.
Day 1. Arrive in
Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to Hotel. Dinner. Briefing on upcoming tour.
Day 2. Fly to Ulaangom town, Uvs- far west province.(4 hours). Uvs – one of the
western provinces was originally named Dorvod after the main ethnic group which inhabited
the area. The Dorvod people, who still represent just under the half of the population of
Uvs , speak their own dialect. Met by local guide and chartered 4 wheel drive vans. Drive
to Kharkhiraa Valley- surrounded by dense pine forests, has crystal clear river is
carpeted with colorful mountain forests. Prepare yourself for scenic but rough ride (35
km). Overnight by the mountain in tents.
Day 3-10.
Load everything on horse and start trekking towards Kharkhiraa mountain peak (4037m).
Trekking guide will lead. Kitchen will be brought on horses. Tented camps. These days we
will visit Dorvod nomad families. Dorvod people are famous in singing "Hoomii" -
an amazing music sound played by mouth . We have opportunity to listen this music almost
in every places here - in Uvs province.
Day 11. Fly back to UB. Rest in the hotel room.
Good massage is available at the hotel.
Day 12. Drive to Terelj National Park (70 km)- a
beautiful alpine with interesting rock formations. . Accommodation in ger-camp. Hiking in
the surrounding area and visiting nomad families enjoying their warm hospitality. Horse
riding experience is available. Dinner and overnight in the ger camp
Day 13. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. After lunch go
for a short city sightseeing tour. Visit Museum of Natural History. Remained hours will be
spent for further exploration of the city and shopping.
Day 14. Depart UB.
